Pearl Harbor
Pearl Harbor is a natural harbor located on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, just west of Honolulu. Today, much of the harbor and its surrounding area serve as a major United States Navy deep-water naval base and the headquarters of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. On December 7, 1941, the harbor was the site of a surprise attack by the Japanese Navy, an event that prompted the United States to declare war on Japan. This attack became the immediate catalyst for America’s entry into World War II.
