Jackson Town Square with Elk Antler Arches
Though the park isn’t large, it is marked by impressive arches made of deer antlers at each of the four cardinal directions—east, west, south, and north. These antlers, though sharp and striking, are not the result of hunting. Each winter, large herds of elk migrate from the mountains to the “National Elk Refuge” in Jackson for the colder months. By spring, the elk naturally shed their antlers, which are then replaced. After the elk depart, these fallen antlers create a unique treasure trove scattered across the land.

National Elk Refuge
Come explore the National Elk Refuge, located just one mile from Jackson, Wyoming’s Town Square. Established in 1912 to safeguard one of the largest elk herds in the world, this expansive refuge covers 24,700 acres. Home to around 5,000 elk, the herd’s numbers often rise to 6,000 or 7,000, and sometimes even more.
